Why you want to learn to surf with the Aikau Pure Hawaiian Surf Academy

Clyde Aikau is the owner of Aikau Pure Hawaiian Surf Academy and Clyde’s fame as a big wave surfer recently won him recognition as a “Waikiki Surf Legend” by the Outrigger Duke Paoa Kahanamoku Foundation. Clyde is also well known around the world as a champion big wave surfer and as an Ambassador of Aloha. In 1965 Clyde Aikau was named Junior Champion for Hawaii and although born and raised in the surf of Hawaii in 1969 Clyde was name Junior Champion for Peru.

Clyde Aikau has always placed in the top ten of the Eddie Aikau Big Wave Surf Championship, held only when waves are twenty feet or more, which has only happened five times in the last twenty years. Clyde Aikau has held the first place title in big wave surf meets including, the Duke Kahanamoku Surfing Championship at Waimea Bay and the Makaha International Championship.

Clyde Aikau and his older brother Eddie Aikau were City and county of Honolulu Lifeguards for Waimea Bay for over seven years, where they saved hundreds of lives from the monster waves at Waimea Bay. Books have been written and movies made depicting the life story of Eddie Aikau who died in an attempt to save the lives of his fellow crewman on the twin hull Hawaiian Sailing Canoe, “Hokulea.”

Clyde Aikau has taught surfing all over the world including, France, Brazil, Japan, Peru, Mexico, Indonesia, New Caledonia, California, and Florida. Clyde Aikau’s students include the Kennedy family. Clyde Aikau is one of only five people who can certify new and current surf instructors and canoe captains for the State of Hawaii.
